The visit of the President of the French Republic on 19 October 1913, is an extraordinary event for the old city of Rheims. It is 10:00, Mr. Raymond Poincare, accompanied by Mr. Stephen Pichon, Minister of Foreign Affairs and General Beaudemoulin, arrives at the station. The presidential motorcade is received on the dock by Mr. Langlet, mayor of Reims, Mr. Chapron, Prefect of the Marne, M. Lenoir and M. Haguenin, Reims deputies as well as by numerous personalities including members of the military who sing the Marseillaise. It is no less than thirty-five cars, which make up the whole procession. The tour includes a reception at the Town Hall, the inauguration of the House of Mutuality, a banquet at the Chamber of Commerce and the inauguration of the Museum of Fine Arts, then all personalities take direction of Pommery Park. They were received by the Marquis de Polignac, surrounded by sports notables. The visit of the President of the Republic shows changing attitudes in sport. The president and 20 000 spectators first attended a race of 3000 meters which participated Jean Bouin. Then inside the College athletes evolved boys and girls, dressed in the ancient manner, alternating patriotic songs and sports demonstrations. This energy abundance demonstrated the therapeutic values ??of sport and the Obstacle, especially against rickets.
